6th March 1973 – Pearl S. Buck, author of ‘The Good Earth‘ was born in Hillsboro, West Virginia, USA on 26th June 1892. She died aged 80 in Danby, Vermont, USA.
6th March 1888 – Louisa May Alcott, author of ‘Little Women‘ was born in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA on 29th November 1932. She died following a stroke aged 55 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Virginia committed suicide by drowning herself after falling into a deep depression. Her cremated remains were buried beneath an elm tree in the garden of Monk’s House, where she lived with her husband.
