Dealing With Scepticism Around Mediumship
‘Communication with the deceased cannot be real and therefore all mediums must be frauds’.
In our modern culture we have all heard statements along these lines, but a common held belief does not make something true and it is why I am hoping to bring some balance to this perspective. For sure, fraudulent people have been exposed posing as mediums and I would be the last to dispute that, but fraudsters operate in all lines of work, that fact alone doesn’t disprove the existence of spirits or genuine mediums.
Sceptics often argue that we understand too much about the brain to entertain the feasibility of life after death, but do we really? What is consciousness and how does it arise from chemical exchanges in the brain? Is it at least possible that consciousness may survive physical death?
It was William James who said “If you wish to upset the law that all crows are black, you mustn’t seek to show that no crows are; it is enough if you prove one single crow to be white.” It may surprise you to know that respected scientist Dr Julie Beischel of the Windbridge Institute may just have found that white crow, even several of them.
Her stringent application of scientific method in the study of Mediumship has provided data so strongly in favour of the mediums Dr Julie researched, that she has now dedicated her time to the study of consciousness and in raising awareness of her findings. She may not be able to scientifically prove an Afterlife, but Dr Julie says she can scientifically prove that not all mediums are frauds.
For millennia people have reported seeing apparitions or receiving communication from deceased loved ones. It is impossible that all these people are deluded. Although many of these experiences are kept private and not shared openly, it is telling that despite our many advances the majority of people in this world do believe in an afterlife. For many of these people their belief will be due in part to a personal experience that they or someone close to them has had, one which they cannot simply explain away. For some, that experience may well have come from consulting a medium.
Genuine mediums can’t scientifically prove an Afterlife, but they do often provide an experience that for those attending a sitting provides evidence suggestive of consciousness surviving physical death. If during a reading, a medium can provide a client with information so specific to their deceased loved one that the client recognises that medium is outstripping pure chance, or even better still, if the medium can provide information to the client that the client does not know and must go away and corroborate, then the evidence for the survival of consciousness becomes compelling.
At these times a recipient of a message can be afforded something very valuable indeed, peace of mind and emotional healing and herein lies the greatest litmus test. If the recipient of a message can leave the experience feeling happier, more comforted and with greater peace of mind, whether the wider community believes that medium to be in communication with the deceased or not, the value of the service the medium has just provided should never be underestimated or ignored and it is because mediums like myself witness this healing affect so often, that we believe and we continue to provide our services.

person with the help of a medium. It is just
not uncommon to know these words are available across a topic at regular intervals about fortune telling.
