Synopsis
An unhappy woman. An unfinished romance. A sense that time is running out…
Verity Westwood is a successful London businesswoman whose husband is handsome but selfish. When Edward Farrell, a nomadic American journalist from her past, returns unexpectedly, she is swept by the irresistible desire to fulfil her dreams of working as an artist, like her famous father before her. After being caught in a storm on the Cote d’Azur, she vows to change her life.
What she does not foresee is the struggle involved, the ultimate price she will pay, and the powerful force of enduring love that changes everything.
Review by Selina
In Finding Verity we meet Verity Westwood, who appears to have it all. She is married to Matt and together they have two beautiful children. She has a great career and a beautiful home. However, we learn that Verity is far from happy. She has lost her confidence and fiery nature that she once had and she wants it back.
As her children have now fled the nest and the long-awaited move to the countryside hasn’t happened, Verity starts to wonder if she can now start to live again. She has always wanted to be an artist and now she may have a second chance at her dream. After all, she has put her life on hold for all these years to raise her family.
We are also introduced to American Journalist, Edward Farrell, whom Verity met at a party years before and although there were sparks between them, Verity decided to marry Matt.
As the years went by Verity and Matt would meet up with Edward when he was in and out of London but they hadn’t seen him since Verity was pregnant with their first daughter. That is until an unexpected meeting, which comes as a shock and a surprise to both of them.
Finding Verity is all about second chances and learning how to live again. Jenny Loudon’s writing has a way of drawing the reader into the storyline, as she gives us some great descriptions of London and France. It is also filled with empathy, which stands out.
I did wish Verity would stand up for herself more, as at times it was frustrating the way she let Matt walk all over her.
I love books where we focus on the older generation, yes, I know 50 isn’t old but it’s a refreshing change from all the stories of women in their 20s or 30s. I Look forward to reading more from Jenny Loudon in the future.
