A child’s first day at school is scary yet exciting. What will my teacher be like? Who will I make friends with?
Capture this unique moment with My First Day of School, featuring questions and drawings for children to complete, creating a memento to cherish for years to come.
My First Year at School, is a record book for a parent/guardian to write details about their child’s first ‘day’ at school, leading me to believe that the title has been misprinted. The synopsis of the book clearly states ‘My First Day at School’, yet the title is ‘Year at School’, and all the questions relate to a child’s first day.
The book is filled with lots of questions to be answered, from the name of the teacher, what the school logo is like, what they ate for dinner, etc. All surrounded by bright colourful images.
There are also sections for photographs to be stuck in, and pictures to be drawn.
The book is a great memento to be able to give to the child later in life, but whilst I think the idea is good, and the book is useful, I also have a couple niggles with it.
One of the questions that is to be answered is ‘Who Picked You up From School’ – tick the box, either, ‘Mum’, ‘Dad’ or ‘Both’. There is no box for ‘Other’, which I find quite strange as a lot of children, even on their first day (I have first hand experience), are not collected by a parent, some children don’t even have parents as such. What about Grandparents, Nannies, Child Minders, Aunties, Foster Carers, etc.
Also, whilst the inside is bright and colourful, the front cover is a little drab, and clearly features a little boy. Surely this would put off those without boys..
With these few issues sorted (title, pick up question, front cover), I believe that this would make a lovely little book for storing the memories of a child’s first day a school.
