In the bright buzzing room…it is time to power down. For parents and children alike, here is a modern bedtime story about bidding our gadgets goodnight. Don’t worry, though. They’ll be waiting for us, fully charged, in the morning.
Goodnight Ipad is a parody for the digital generation of the children’s picture book, ‘Goodnight Moon’. In this humorous book the author takes us through a list of items to say goodnight to, just like in the original book, but this time they are all electronic devices, oh and Granny is throwing them out of the window one by one after getting fed up of their constant buzzing and beeping.
The book is a few years old now so some of the technology has moved on since, such as we have MP3s and Blackberry’s mentioned, but the sentiment is still there and I found it amusing how Granny after listening to the items all day has thought, enough is enough and decided to take action.
We live in a world where electronic devices play a big part, even as I type this review on my computer I have my phone next to me, one child is watching Netflix whilst another is playing on his Playstation, and most likely his phone at the same time. It is a lovely reminder that maybe we need to step away from gadgets and devices ever now and again.
The illustrations are as funny as the plot and the text. For those of you who have read Goodnight Moon to your children night after night, this would make a great alternative and give your children a giggle. There is no swearing, etc within the pages so it can be read to little ones.
Overall, a fun story that just might make you laugh-out-loud and step away from your devices for a while.
