synopsis of a witch My Kind of Wonderful

If you’d been given a second chance at life, what’s the first thing you would do?

Now that artist Bailey is finally healthy for the first time in forever, she’s living life to the full. First on her wishlist is skiing in the Rockies – at least it will be if she can get down the mountain in one piece…

Luckily, a ski patrolling Prince Charming comes to Bailey’s aid. Learning that her mysterious rescuer, Hudson Kincaid, is also the subject of the mural she’s been commissioned to paint in Cedar Ridge, Bailey is intrigued.

As she uncovers the real man behind Hudson’s strong, silent facade, Bailey begins to realise that the life of adventure she has always dreamed of could be closer to home than she ever imagined.

Review of a witch

After ten long and tiring years, Bailey Moore’s cancer is finally in remission. She’s determined to get the most out of her new life and begins to work her way through a bucket list.

Whilst hired to paint a mural at Cedar Ridge, a ski resort in Colorado, Bailey decides to make the most of the beautiful surroundings and head down the mountain – despite her lacking in the ability to ski properly! Taking a wrong turn and ending up at the top of one of the black and somewhat hair-raising runs, Bailey meets Hudson Kincaid; head of Ski Patrol, local cop, and the subject of the mural she’s about to start painting.
Despite their attraction to each other, they clash. They’re both stubborn and fiercely independent, yet the connection can’t be ignored.

Hudson carries the weight of his family on his shoulders. His twin brother, Jacob, went missing after a fight between them many years ago, and Hudson doesn’t even know if he’s still alive. Their mum, Carrie, lives in a care home nearby due to suffering from dementia which was onset from an early age. Despite her dementia, she still has her moments of lucidness, which Hudson treasures dearly.

As well as Jacob, Hudson also has three half siblings courtesy of his non-existent philanderer of a father; Gray, Aidan, and Kenna, who all reside at Cedar Ridge with him. There’s a solid bond between the siblings and it’s obvious they care strongly about each other – and each other’s mum’s.

Although Bailey and Hudson’s characters connect, Hudson has no room in his life for a relationship, and Bailey has her heart set on working her way through her life’s wish list, so they agree on a no-strings fling whilst she’s in Cedar Ridge. However, along the way feelings begin to run deep, but with both of them as stubborn as the other, will they break down their barriers and admit the truth before Bailey leaves and moves on to the next item on her wish list?

The scenes between Bailey and Hudson are quite passionate in places, without being trashy. It’s beautifully well written despite it seemingly being just a fling between them, and it made me fall in love with, and root for, both of the characters even more so than I had already.

My Kind of Wonderful, is the second in a series by Jill Shalvis, which focuses on each Kincaid sibling in turn. Having not read the first book, I didn’t feel like I’d missed out on anything because this was a story in its own right – about Hudson and Bailey. Although the rest of the Kincaids are in the book, you’re still told about their backstory so you don’t feel like you’ve missed anything.

My Kind of Wonderful was an absolute pleasure to read and I loved every single page of it. You won’t be able to put it down once you start reading!
