Loblolly pine trees fill Mommy Moo Moo’s magical backyard. “Loblolly, Loblolly, you’re so tall. You reach to the sky, up so high.” These giant pines native to the American Southeast have never been so celebrated for their grace, their strength, and their beauty as in this enchanting picture book.

Written in a lyrical style perfect for bedtime, “Loblolly, Loblolly, You’re So Tall” captures the whimsy of a child’s imagination and the majesty of the outdoors.

Review 2020 red

Loblolly, Loblolly, you’re so tall is a book about the Loblolly trees that are native to the south-eastern USA. Living in the UK and having never heard of these trees before I found reviewing this book quite hard as my interest just wasn’t there.

The book features some amazing artwork and is written in a poetic form. I didn’t really see much of a story going on, more a collection of thoughts about what the trees look like. Whether that was them trying to reach the sky or their trunks looking like birthday candles. It did have a strangely calming effect though.

For those that love nature, this book will be enjoyable. All the illustrations are of these magnificent, tall trees, and having looked at some photos on Google of them I can see how the author thinks they resemble giant candy floss (cotton candy) on sticks or bottle brushes.

Overall, I think this is a beautiful book, whilst I am confident that very few children in the UK will ever have heard of these trees, I’m also sure those that have a love of nature will enjoy learning about them and will adore looks at all the detailing that has gone into the illustrations.
