Monthly Review – August

Monthly Review – August 2016

August 2016 header picture

August seemed to flash by far too quickly, marking the end of the British Summer. It won’t be long before all the children/students are back to school, college and university (although I do know someone who has gone back to school today). I hope you all have a wonderful year, and learn lots.

After going away twice last month, we decided that we would have a Staycation for August and have some wonderful days out instead. We did plenty of trips to the cinema, but I’ve never got around to seeing the BFG, as no-one else wanted to see it. Looks like I’ll have to wait until it comes out on dvd. 🙁

Back to the blog, the incredible bloggers and myself have reviewed 34 books this month, which is quite good considering most were away on holiday at some point. Included in that 34 books was 14 children’s books that have been featured on our new weekly post ‘Children’s Books Tuesday’ a day dedicated just for the youngsters.

As well as reviews we have also had lots of other posts to share with you including interviews, cover reveals, blog tours, book blasts, giveaways, plus more.

On our cover reveals we brought you three covers from authors Laura Heffernan and her book ‘America’s Next Reality Star’, Susan Schild and her book ‘Sweet Southern Hearts’ and lastly Valerie Puri and her new book ‘The Crimson Tree’.

Our author interviews went down a treat this month as we talked to Tiffany McDaniel, Liz Harris, Lisa Gordon, Daniel Clausen and Harry Whitewolf, who all shared their writing live’s with us.

Unfortunately, I have some sad news this month to bring you. One of our longest serving reviewers has bid us farewell – Rebecca. We are sad to see her go, but her books must come first and she is busy with her new book ‘OUTSIDE THE GATE: A white man’s fight for black justice. The inspirational story of Dr Nico Smith’ which we will feature on the blog in October, so look out for that.

We have gained two new reviewers though, Jodie K and Precious who you can read all about on our ‘Meet the Reviewers’ page.

Last month I was saying a big thank you to everyone for pushing us over the 7,000 followers on Twitter. This month has been extraordinary – we have hit over 8,000 followers. So I would like to say an even bigger Thank You to everyone. You are all truly appreciated.

As well as twitter our Facebook page is slowly growing, at just over 260 followers – I would love to see that figure grow so if anyone would love to followers us I would be very grateful.

I also set up an Instagram account, my first every account with them, so please bare with me whilst I’m learning the art of taking artistic photos. There are a few on there already, so if you would like to follow us, then here’s the link.

On to what September has to bring you. Well, we are starting a new interview slot coming to you every Monday called ‘Bloggers’ Bench’. The interviews will be about meeting other bloggers from all different genres, from book blogs, to lifestyle, beauty, parenting, plus lots more. I have been overwhelmed by the number of bloggers who have wanted to take part that the interviews are fully booked until Christmas.

We kick off on 5th September with Julie Haiselden and her blog jhbooksblog

I have a few blog tours, guest posts, giveaways etc booked in for September already, alongside lots more reviews to bring you. What books do you have plans to read this month?

So here’s to a happy, healthy and hopefully not too cold September. I’ll see you next month.
