Review by Stacey
Yvette Fielding, once a familiar face as a presenter on the children’s TV show Blue Peter, had long harboured a passion for the paranormal. This fascination eventually took centre stage with the creation of her popular tv series Most Haunted. Now, she has channelled that same energy into writing ghost-themed books for children, ranging from fiction featuring child ghost hunters to chilling non-fiction accounts of haunted locations.
In her latest book, Most Haunted Houses, Yvette Fielding invites young readers to take a spine-tingling journey across the UK, exploring homes, both big and small, where she and her team have encountered ghostly activity. With vivid recounting of their eerie investigations, she offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into her ghost-hunting experiences.
Firstly, a word of caution: this book may not be suitable for children who are easily frightened or prone to nightmares, as some of the stories are genuinely scary. While I can’t confirm whether these events are entirely factual or embellished for dramatic effect having not been present at the investigations, the book remains thoroughly entertaining regardless of where one stands on the existence of ghosts.
The writing is pitched perfectly for its intended age group, and the accompanying illustrations effectively bring each haunted setting to life, helping young readers to visualise the places being talked about.
Overall, The Most Haunted series offers an exciting and accessible introduction to the supernatural. It blends suspenseful storytelling with a hint of educational intrigue. These books are sure to captivate curious minds and may even inspire a new generation of budding ghost hunters.
