Magic Alley – Product Review

Magic Alley – Product Review

Magical Alley Logo

Sponsored Post – I was recently contacted by Nathan from Magic Alley – an online store who focuses solely on Harry Potter products, all of which are official merchandise, to see if I would like to review a few of their items. Now I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan, so of course I agreed.

A few days later I received in the post 3 items. A Platform 9 3/4 tote bag, a bottle of Flying Cauldron Butterbeer and a Golden Snitch Necklace. I was worried about the Butterbeer in transit, but I needed not of as all the items were extremely well wrapped.

Flying Cauldron Butterbeer

First up I decided to taste the Flying Cauldron Butterbeer – it’s Non-Alcoholic Butterscotch Cream Soda. I’ve tasted Butterbeer a few years ago at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida, and whilst I’ll be perfectly honest and say I can’t remember the exact taste, the colour and the fizz were just as I remembered.

The taste is very sweet and the smell is pure butterscotch. The bottle holds 12 FL OZ, is 100% natural and is dairy & gluten free too. You can buy the Butterbeer in single bottles or in packs of four.

Ingredients: Sparkling filtered water, unbleached cane sugar, vanilla extract, natural caramel, natural flavors, stevia rebaudiana leaf extract.

Golden Snitch Necklace

Necklace two

The Golden Snitch Necklace is a lovely looking necklace and something I’m sure a Harry Potter fan would love to own. The Snitch is flat and the wings are rigid, so they don’t move. The span is 3.7cm and the depth is just under 1cm at 8mm. The necklace chain is silver plated and 16 inches in length, which can be extended by a further 2.5 inches if need be. This is a necklace that could be worn daily as it is not too big that it overpowers an outfit.

Necklace one

The necklace is officially licensed from the Carat Shop and come packaged in a little transparent bag, attached to an official Harry Potter card. It is quite delicate and not suitable for those under three, but it would definitely make a lovely present.

Platform 9 3/4 Tote Bag

tote bag

What book lover doesn’t love a tote bag? This bag is a lovely red colour with the Platform 9 3/4 logo on the front and the Harry Potter logo on the back. It is the same red on both sides, unfortunately the camera didn’t pick that up very well.

The bag length is 36cm and the straps are 29cms, so overall it is 65cms long (the website states it is 67.5cm, but mine is definitely 65cms, I measured it more than once). The width is 33cms.

The bag is 100% cotton and wipe clean only. On the side there is the official Harry Potter branding label. Inside is a zipped pocket with Harry Potter written on it, and the bag closes with a magnetic snap closure. It is exceptionally well made by Half Moon Bay, which is officially licensed to make the branded items.

Magic Alley One

As well as the items that I was sent to review, the shop also sells lots of other merchandise including, character wands, ties, cuff links, sweets, watches, scarves, earrings and lots more.

History behind Magic Alley as told by the owner

Magical Alley photo

My Harry Potter adventure began back in July 2000, when my older brother bought the Goblet of Fire book that had just been published. Within a week I’d finished the Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban and was waiting for him to get to the end of the Goblet of Fire so that I could read it. I was hooked!

From that point I’ve been a huge Harry Potter fan throughout my life, reading all of the books and watching all of the films every summer. JK Rowling was able to create an amazing world unlike any other, and just like millions of other fans around the World, it’s one that continues to keep my interest all these years later.

I established Magic Alley in 2015, with the aim of creating an entirely Harry Potter focused store, stocking products and quirky items that aren’t usually found in many other places in the United Kingdom. We have drinks and sweets produced in the United States, wands identical to those sold at the Studio Tour in London, an amazing but affordable jewellery range from another UK retailer, scarves and ties belonging to each of the four Hogwarts Houses and authentically reproduced, and all these among lots of other interesting Harry Potter products.

As well as our web store that you’re currently visiting, our team also regularly attend shows and conventions throughout the UK, which allow us to meet other Harry Potter fans directly and run a mobile retail location that is able to be visited by thousands of visitors in a single weekend.

We have big plans for our future – and while some have to be kept under wraps – we’ll continue adding to our product range and help continue to keep the fascinating world of Harry Potter alive after all these years!
