Realising his pal is unhappy and will never be the flying hero his mother wants him to be, Ronaldo comes up with an idea to showcase Donny’s talent to the entire village.
But will the plan convince Donny’s mother and give Donny the future he dreams of?
Review by Stacey
Ronaldo: Donny’s Superpower is part of the Ronaldo’s Flying Adventures children’s books series by author Maxine Sylvester, of which there are currently six books. Whilst I haven’t read them all I have previously reviewed Ronaldo: The Vixen Pederson Workshop & Ronaldo: The Phantom Carrot Snatcher.
In this latest instalment Ronaldo, who is the best flying reindeer cadet, is injured and is out of flying for a while so to pass the time he takes on the job of tutoring a reindeer that is struggling, a lot, Donny.
Donny has had twelve previous flying tutors and none have managed to teach him and it isn’t long before Ronaldo sees why. He also sees another side to Donny and what truly makes him happy, but can he convince others that Donny has a different superpower than flying?
The book being part of a series features most of the characters from the previous books so it was delightful to meet them all again and continue their stories.
Ronaldo: Donny’s Superpower is both highly amusing and heart-warming. Donny is a huge reindeer and struggles with flying, in fact, he hates flying but his mother is set on him following in his father’s hoof steps even though it isn’t his dream. It was lovely to see Ronaldo being his usual caring self and helping Donny to be happy.
There are small illustrations dotted throughout and the text has been written at the right level with no complicated words for young readers moving onto longer books. The plot heavily features friendships and caring for one another, a vital lesson for youngsters to learn.
Overall, another superb book in the Ronaldo series that is perfect for this time of year. It is enjoyable and will keep the reader entertained.
