Review by Stacey

The Time Travellers series is a fabulous way for children to learn about parts of history that they might not learn in school in a fun, interesting, and inviting way. In the second book of this middle-grade series, new friends Suhana, Mia, and Ayaan who were whisked off on their first adventure back in time just a short while ago are off again, this time they travel back to 1799 India.

The three children find themselves in a fort fighting the East India Company in Seringapatam, India. On their handheld gadget, which helps them while they are time travelling, a message appears – ‘Save the young Princess’ – but the children are baffled as to who the princess may be and why she needs saving.

The trio will have their work cut out to find out what is happening, where they are, who the princess is, and all before they have to return home. Their adventure awaits.

Secrets and Spies is a fascinating story that has educated me not only about the event in India but also about a World War Two Spy. I’ll leave you to read about her in the book. I love how the author manages to weave factual historical information within the plot and has still created something that is adventurous and thrilling.

Overall, this is a book that every middle-grader should read, actually, they should read the full series (more books are on the way). It will broaden young minds and give them a tremendous tale at the same time.
