Synopsis
From the creative duo behind Little Turtle and the Sea, this powerful story is a lyrical rainforest adventure with an overarching message about extinction, endangered animals and loss of habitats in the wild.
Aasha’s rainforest is changing. Trees are being cut down, and worse still, tigers are disappearing. One terrible day, Aahsa must leave her home for ever. Is she really the very last tiger? A story of one tiger’s journey for survival in a changing environment.
Exploring prevalent and current ecological themes, this beautiful story, and accompanying educational pages, is the perfect, age-appropriate introduction to discussions about extinction. Ideal for children who’ve read There’s a Rang-Tan in My Bedroom, Someone Swallowed Stanley, The Journey Home and Greta and the Giants.
Review by Stacey
The Last Tiger is a poignant look at why some species of animals are becoming extinct through deforestation, climate change, etc.
In the book, we meet Aasha, a tiger who lives in the rainforest. She loves her home until it starts to change and some of the animals leave, the trees are cut down and the environment alters. Eventually, she realises that she needs to leave and find a new place to live too.
The story is truly moving and it will bring to the forefront the cost of what mainly humans are doing to the animals. Children will learn about deforestation and climate change not only via the beautiful story but by the information that has been added to the back of the book, including other books to read, websites to visit, a glossary, etc.
I loved everything about The Last Tiger. It is a touching tale (including amazing illustrations) that will hopefully make the readers realise what is happening in the world and the animals that are affected by it.
