Review by Stacey
Yomi and the Power of the Yumboes is the second book in the The Nkara Chronicles by author Davina Tijani. I read the first book Yomi and the Fury of Ninki Nanka back in September 2023 and thought it was a truly spectacular read, this one I can confirm is just as good.
The book follows Yomi and her little brother Kayode who after their adventures in the first story are now official members of the Sacred Beast League (SBL), alongside their uncle. This time the siblings have travelled to Senegal where they are helping a Yumboe (a fairy-like creature with moon power magic).
Rich with excitement and charm this fast-paced story will keep readers entertained the whole way through. The book is delightful and enchanting and weaves together various African folklore and mythologies which adds depth and cultural richness to the read.
Yomi and the Power of the Yumboes will delight its young readers with its compelling plot and wonderful black-and-white illustrations. It will hopefully have them wanting to read more books that are due to follow in the series and follow the SBL as they visit more African countries.
